I hear alot about continuation betting. Can anyone explain this to me and tell me what it means. I know it has something to do with betting into the pot after the flop and after a raise. I think. Please help all ideas and input welcome

Ok postchomper, errrr, chipchomper, hehe.....

The Continuation Bet is what it implies. When you make a pre-flop raise, then after the flop, you again make a bet, called the continuation bet, that continues your aggresion.

This is mainly used when you miss the flop. Say you have AK pre-flop and you raise 5xbb. you get 2 callers, and the flop is J, 3, 6.  You are first to act, and bet 1/2 the pot. That is a continuation bet. You are in affect saying I have a made hand to the other players.

Now you might have had JJ pre-flop there, and the flop would have given you a set.  You bet 1/2 the pot. That is still a continuation bet.

The thing is not to overuse the C-bet. And the main point of a C-bet is to win your missed flops or to build a pot if you are ahead.  The hard part is melding a good understanding of your opponents styles, varying your bet sizes, position, and flop texture....but once you have that, the C-bet will let you chomp chips at will.

The thing is to achieve a balance, where your opponent doesn't know if you are just C-betting again or if you have a made hand. The C-bet is "pressure" in poker. Apply it right and people will fold to it. Apply it wrong, and you will bleed chips.

Hope this helps.

Continuation betting is a basic way to say I got a strong hand!

I poker you are telling a story with your betting.  Continuation betting you #1 keep bluffing if you missed, or you find out how strong your hole cards are from the reaction of opponent or #2 you keep control of the pot with those bets.

Basically you are trying to tell a story all the time with your bets and here you are screaming a different verse may it be to steal chips or say I got pockets etc and the opponent is going to so many chips no matter what may it be to suck out or see the next card!

You can just use for putting a set price on next card period.  Just one of many pressure plays !
